Taiwan Stocks Soar 1201 Points to Close at 44,704.44

(CNA, Taipei, 9th) The Taipei stock market opened high and trended higher today, closing up 1201.66 points at 44704.44, a 2.76% increase, with a turnover of NT$1.15193 trillion.

The TAIEX opened at 43687.62 points, reaching a high of 44821.71 and a low of 43687.62 during the session. The index excluding financials closed at 40229.79, up 973.22 points.

The eight major stock categories saw the following changes: Cement/Pottery rose 0.88%, Foodstuffs rose 1.13%, Plastics/Chemicals rose 1.36%, Textiles rose 1.74%, Electrical Machinery rose 2.59%, Paper rose 1.25%, Construction rose 1.26%, and Financials rose 6.3%.

Buy orders amounted to 24,049,288 lots, sell orders to 16,663,175 lots, and total traded lots were 13,754,527.

At closing, 779 stocks rose, 247 fell, and 77 were unchanged.
