(Central News Agency, New York, 8th - Combined Foreign Reports) U.S. President Donald Trump attended the game between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs today, becoming the first sitting president to attend an NBA Finals game, but was met with loud boos from the crowd.
According to Reuters, Trump was invited by Knicks owner James Dolan to watch the game from a VIP box at Madison Square Garden. When the national anthem was played and Trump's image appeared on the big screen, the packed arena erupted in jeers and boos. Despite this, Trump maintained a smile.
Trump's presence led to extremely tight security around the arena, causing long lines and very slow entry for ticketed fans.
Errol Ismail, a fan from Brooklyn who runs a fitness company, said he had to go to several entrances to get in and expressed his wish that Trump had not come. He stated that Trump is not a true fan, saying, "He just makes everything terrible. We've been waiting for this moment our whole lives, and he, as usual, makes it all about himself."
However, a few fans anonymously welcomed the president as a Knicks fan, saying they "don't want to bring politics into tonight."
This is not the first time Trump has caused dissatisfaction among fans due to security measures. When he attended the U.S. Open men's final last year, strict security also led to chaos, with many spectators missing the start of the match, and the event was met with a mix of boos and cheers.
The New York Knicks currently hold a lead in the best-of-seven Finals series. This is the team's first home Finals game in 27 years, making tickets for this game the hottest commodity in New York, with many fans spending thousands of dollars to secure seats.
Today's Game 3 of the Finals also attracted a host of celebrity New York fans to the "celebrity seats," including famed director Spike Lee, New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter, and comedian Ben Stiller, making the event a star-studded affair. (Editor: Cai Jiamin) 1150609
