The U.S. government announced new sanctions on Tuesday against 11 entities and individuals in China and Hong Kong for assisting the Iranian military and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in procuring weapons. According to a statement from the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), nine of the designated entities are companies and individuals from China and Hong Kong that helped the Iranian military acquire weapons. One Hong Kong company was involved in operating a secret Iranian financial network. The Treasury added that the State Department also designated two companies and individuals from Iran and Belarus for activities related to Iranian conventional weapons.
