(Central News Agency, reporter Chen Yuting, Taipei, June 11) DPP Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang yesterday criticized the city government's policies, including the plan to reduce working hours for childcare, saying the city lacks comprehensive supporting measures and governs the city in a 'Band-Aid style.' Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an said today that the city government was the first in the nation to introduce this policy.
Shen had previously proposed improving the city government's work environment to reduce pressure on civil servants. Chiang responded that the city government was already working on it and would continue to strive for a more friendly work environment.
Shen stated yesterday that his proposals reflect the people's voices, but the city government's response is always arrogant and claims to have done everything perfectly. He also commented on Taipei City's childcare work-hour reduction plan, saying the idea is good but lacks comprehensive supporting measures, likening it to governing the city by applying band-aids.
In response to Shen's criticism, Chiang, while attending the '115th AI Leadership Smart Manufacturing Stability Observation Meeting' today, told the media that Taipei City was the first in the nation to introduce the childcare work-hour reduction without pay cut plan, and the central government later followed suit. He said the city government is very willing to share its experience during this period and work with the central government to protect citizens' rights.
Additionally, regarding the new 'New Youth Housing Loan 2.0' (Xin Qing'an 2.0) to be announced at the end of June, Chiang expressed willingness to share Taipei City's experience with 'Happiness Housing' for newlywed and child-rearing families with the central government, to exchange ideas and improve policies. He also hopes the central government will consider the differences in housing prices across various counties and cities when setting loan limits, to truly protect citizens' rights.
