(Central News Agency, Toronto, 10th, Combined Foreign Reports) Max Scherzer, the ace pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB), achieved his 3,500th career strikeout after returning from the injured list, marking another significant milestone in his career. According to the Associated Press, during the Toronto Blue Jays' game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Scherzer struck out Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber looking with an 86 mph changeup to start the game. A three-time Cy Young Award winner and eight-time All-Star, Scherzer became the 11th pitcher in MLB history to reach 3,500 strikeouts. Hall of Fame legend Walter Johnson ranks 10th all-time with 3,509 strikeouts. Scherzer's former teammate and current MLB pitcher Justin Verlander is another active player to have achieved this feat, with 3,554 strikeouts. Scherzer later struck out Trea Turner, adding to his record. However, the next batter, Bryce Harper, hit a home run. So far this season, Scherzer has allowed 8 home runs. Before the game, the Blue Jays activated Scherzer from the 15-day injured list. He had been sidelined due to right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation. Scherzer re-signed with the Blue Jays in February on a one-year, $3 million contract.
