(Central News Agency, reporter Wang Yang-yu, Taipei, 12th) DPP Legislator Lai Hui-yuan from Tainan City today partnered with the Tainan City Beimen District Farmers' Association to unveil a new product, "Beimen Shallot Corn Crisps," which combines the characteristics of local Beimen shallots with the concept of leisure snacks. The goal is to bring high-quality agricultural products into consumers' daily lives through innovative R&D and brand packaging, while also targeting the youth market.
Lai Hui-yuan and the Tainan City Beimen District Farmers' Association held a new product launch event for the "Beimen District Farmers' Association Local Select Agricultural Innovation Awards and Shallot Corn Crisps" at the Legislative Yuan today. DPP Legislators Ke Chien-ming, Wang Mei-hui, Kuo Kuo-wen, and Lin Chun-hsien attended in support, along with Deputy Minister of Agriculture Hu Chung-i.
Lai stated that Tainan is an important agricultural hub in Taiwan. Facing climate change, market competition, and changing consumption patterns, agriculture cannot remain at the production stage. It must move towards high value-added, branding, and diversified processing to continuously enhance its competitiveness.
Lai pointed out that shallots are an important specialty crop in the coastal Greater Beimen area, long recognized by the market for their rich aroma and excellent quality. Therefore, transforming high-quality local agricultural products into products that better meet market demand is a key issue for local agricultural upgrading.
Lai said that this time, the Beimen Farmers' Association spent six months developing the "Shallot Corn Crisps," incorporating high-quality Beimen shallots into a leisure snack. This not only preserves the local flavor but also expands into the youth market and diverse sales channels in an innovative way.
Lai believes that agricultural product processing involves not only product development but also farmers' income, production and marketing adjustments, and local industrial upgrading. Through refined packaging and creative R&D, it can help stabilize farmers' incomes, alleviate pressure during peak production periods, and promote the Tainan agricultural brand to a larger market.
Chen Po-kai, Chief Executive of the Tainan City Beimen District Farmers' Association, stated that with every bite of the "Shallot Corn Crisps," consumers can taste the pure aroma of Tainan shallots. The flavor is a balance of salty and sweet, crispy but not greasy. The product will be officially launched today at the Beimen Farmers' Association, designated farmers' association sales channels, and online e-commerce platforms. He welcomed the public to place orders. (Editor: Huang Ming-hsi) 1150612
