(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 12) A frontal system has brought abundant rainfall, and the water storage rate of Tsengwen Reservoir exceeded 20% on the evening of June 11. Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin stated today that the frontal system has improved the water situation in southern Taiwan, and water supply is expected to be secure until the end of September. However, due to ongoing demand for agricultural irrigation, the situation will continue to be monitored.
According to the official website of the Water Resources Agency, as of 12:00 noon today, the water storage rate of Wushantou Reservoir was 41.03%, Tsengwen Reservoir was 21.29%, and Nanhua Reservoir was 55.03%.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs held the first meeting of the 2026 Economic and Industrial Development Advisory Council today. After the meeting, when asked by the media about the outlook for the water situation in southern Taiwan following Tsengwen Reservoir's water level exceeding 20%, Kung Ming-hsin stated that the frontal system has improved the situation and water supply is expected to be secure until the end of September.
Regarding whether the second-phase rice irrigation will proceed as scheduled, Kung Ming-hsin said it requires continued observation.
According to statistics from the Water Resources Agency, from 7:00 AM on June 4 to 7:00 AM on June 12, this rainfall event brought approximately 450 million metric tons of water to major reservoirs across Taiwan, of which about 300 million metric tons have already entered the reservoirs. Among these, the estimated total inflow to the Tsengwen and Wushantou reservoirs is about 110 million metric tons, and to Nanhua Reservoir about 55 million metric tons.
