(CNA, Pingtung County, by reporter Li Hui-ting, June 12) TSMC Chairman Mark Liu, attending the joint groundbreaking ceremony for the Pingtung Science Park's semiconductor supply chain zone today, said that President Lai Ching-te mentioned a grand plan to him to connect all reservoirs, so that 'in the future, there will be no need to talk about shortages of land, water, and power,' but a talent shortage remains.
In his speech, Liu stated that TSMC's modest achievements today are due not only to its own efforts but also to the collaborative struggle of its supply chain partners. Without them, TSMC would not have such success. He thanked the supply chain partners and the Pingtung County Government for providing the land, allowing all supply chain partners to develop in the long term, which is very important for TSMC.
He said that upon accepting President Lai's invitation to this place today, he was very happy to see such heavy rain. Just last month, he was still thinking, 'What about the water, should we activate the water trucks?' They were always prepared, but thankfully, heavy rain came. Just now, President Lai also mentioned the grand plan to him to connect all the reservoirs, so that 'in the future, there will be no need to talk about shortages of land, water, and power.'
'But there is still a shortage of talent.' Liu expressed his hope that the Pingtung County Government would increase its population and educational capacity, so that there would be enough young people from Pingtung to support TSMC and its supply chain partners. The future demand for semiconductors is long-term, and Taiwan will surely be the most important place for semiconductor requirements. With supply chain partners working together, Taiwan will become the most important place in the world. 'This is also because the government provides enough land, water, and power, allowing TSMC to develop here for the long haul.'
The Pingtung Science Park features a semiconductor supply chain zone, with TSMC overseeing the overall planning, occupying about 28 hectares. Today, TSMC led seven companies in a joint groundbreaking ceremony, attended by President Lai, Chairman Liu, Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi, and National Science and Technology Council Minister Wu Cheng-wen, who participated in the groundbreaking.
