According to a report by Central News Agency (CNA) journalist Lin Chiao-Lien from Kaohsiung on the 17th, National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) today signed a 'Strategic Alliance Cooperation Agreement' with Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital (KVGH). The two institutions will integrate academic research and clinical medical resources to deepen collaboration in AI-powered smart healthcare, precision medicine, and clinical research, aiming to build an internationally recognized smart healthcare cooperation platform.

NSYSU stated that the collaboration with KVGH began in 2020 (Minguo Year 109), and they have progressively advanced initiatives such as clinical internships for medical students, clinical faculty systems, interdisciplinary research, and smart healthcare development. The renewed strategic alliance signifies an expansion from individual research projects to a long-term, institutionalized platform integrating medical education and smart healthcare.

Under the agreement, both parties will share research resources and clinical databases. By combining NSYSU’s research strengths in artificial intelligence, big data analytics, information and communications technology, and semiconductor science with KVGH’s extensive clinical experience, they will jointly promote the integration of AI technologies into disease diagnosis, treatment, and patient care processes.

In talent development, KVGH will assist NSYSU’s College of Medicine in establishing a comprehensive clinical teaching system, providing medical, nursing, and healthcare-related students with clinical internship and hands-on training environments. Both institutions will jointly design curricula, cultivate core competencies, conduct faculty training, and introduce AI and digital healthcare-related courses.

NSYSU President Li Chih-Peng stated that the university has been actively advancing smart healthcare development in recent years, promoting interdisciplinary research in artificial intelligence, information engineering, precision medicine, and smart health. Through deeper collaboration with KVGH, NSYSU will further integrate teaching, research, clinical, and technological resources to accelerate innovation in smart hospitals and future medical systems.

KVGH Director Chen Jin-Shun noted that in the face of an aging society and the wave of AI in healthcare, medical systems must accelerate the integration of technology and clinical practice. This collaboration will help cultivate cross-domain medical talent and enhance overall care quality.

NSYSU Vice President and Dean of the College of Medicine Hsu Po-Chin stated that both parties will continue to advance key initiatives such as smart wards, precision medicine, elderly care, and medical big data analytics. By leveraging southern Taiwan’s strengths in semiconductor and smart technology industries, they aim to build an international-level smart healthcare cooperation platform that integrates medical education, scientific innovation, clinical services, and industry linkages.
