(CNA Tehran, June 18, Foreign News) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated today that the "historic" agreement reached between Iran and the United States will pave the way for ending the war and promoting a final peace agreement; however, Tehran also emphasized that future negotiations with Washington will not involve Iran's missile program.

According to Agence France-Presse, Pezeshkian posted on social media: "This is a historic document and a message from a strong Iran: peace will be achieved on the basis of mutual respect."

He attached an image of the document to his post, showing that it had been jointly signed by himself, U.S. President Trump, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who mediated the agreement.

The agreement lays the foundation for subsequent detailed negotiations on Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions against Tehran, but does not mention Iran's missile program.

Iran stated today that future negotiations with the United States will not involve Iran's missile program.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said in an interview with Iranian state television: "No one should think about our missiles. Iran's missiles are for launching, not for negotiation."

Before the outbreak of the war, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had warned that Iran must negotiate its ballistic missile program. Washington believes these missiles pose a threat to Israel and U.S. military bases in the Middle East.

Trump's stance appears to have softened. He stated yesterday that not allowing Iran to have missiles seems "a bit unfair."

Trump said: "I mean, if other countries have missiles, it’s a bit unfair not to let them have some."

The Swiss Foreign Ministry confirmed today that following the signing of the agreement between the U.S. and Iran to end the war in the Middle East, Washington and Tehran plan to hold preliminary talks tomorrow at the resort in Buergenstock, Switzerland, to discuss how to implement the agreement.
