Taipei, June 18 (CNA) The National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) Department of Architecture is holding its graduation exhibition, featuring a student project that transforms a shopping mall's public areas into an "urban oasis" concept. The design utilizes stepped volumes to create continuous and open public spaces, incorporating elements like rooftop gardens and outdoor platforms.
NTUST announced in a press release today that the NTUST Department of Architecture's 2026 graduation exhibition will be held from June 18 to 21 at the South Tobacco Factory of Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. The exhibition will showcase 56 graduation design projects under the theme "Fields of Resonance," covering topics such as urban renewal, commercial spaces, public facilities, and natural landscapes.
NTUST Department of Architecture student Guo Cheng-ning stated that her project, "URBAN OASIS - A Mixed-Use Shopping Mall," is based on the concept of an "urban oasis." The design employs stepped volumes to create continuous and open public areas, integrating diverse functions such as rooftop gardens, outdoor platforms, performance stages, and markets, fostering a living community that combines leisure, interaction, and cultural experiences.
Another NTUST Department of Architecture student, You Cheng-hua, presented his graduation design "Stacked City." Based on the Nanjichang residential area, his proposal offers an alternative vision for urban renewal, diverging from traditional demolition and reconstruction. It involves "stacking" onto the existing urban fabric through vertical expansion, spatial connections, and functional integration, reorganizing the originally mixed residential, commercial, and public activities into a more orderly public domain.
NTUST Department of Architecture student Cai Zhen-you's project, "Perceptual Ripples - From Environment to Foot Bath Culture," explores the geothermal culture of Beitou. The work translates local characteristics through the five senses, transforming temperature, scent, sound, and light into tangible experiences. For instance, it uses "foot baths" as an intervention method to make abstract geothermal phenomena accessible as everyday experiences.
Sui Yi-xuan, the chief coordinator of the NTUST Department of Architecture's 2026 graduation exhibition, mentioned that the exhibited works stem from students' observations of spaces, places, and life experiences. These projects document the students' four years of learning and demonstrate their reflections on architecture, the environment, and society. (Edited by Li Heng-shan) 1150618
