(CNA reporter Li Hui-ting Pingtung County, 18th) Continuous heavy rains in June have caused agricultural damage in Pingtung County exceeding NT$40 million. The Pingtung County Government today urged farmers to use the "Agricultural Industry Natural Disaster On-site Photo App" for reporting to ensure their eligibility for aid.
In June, Pingtung experienced continuous heavy rainfall due to the influence of a stationary front, resulting in agricultural damage. The Pingtung County Government estimates that as of 5 p.m. today, the accumulated agricultural damage has exceeded NT$40 million, affecting crops such as papaya, cucumber, bitter melon, and watermelon.
The Pingtung County Government stated in a press release today that due to the impact of extreme weather, the duration of this heavy rain disaster was longer, and the damage to some crops will only become apparent after subsequent sunny days. To expedite the township offices' statistics and avoid overlooking crop items, farmers are urged to use the "Agricultural Industry Natural Disaster On-site Photo App" to take photos of damaged crops after the disaster. They can also report the affected items and field parcel numbers to their local township office by phone. A disaster assessment team will be formed to conduct on-site inspections of the fields to understand the crop damage and ensure farmers' rights.
Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi said that the Agriculture Department has strengthened communication with all township and city offices. The county government is compiling daily statistics and submitting them to the Ministry of Agriculture. Farmers can also pay attention to the items and townships announced daily by the Ministry of Agriculture to ensure their eligibility for aid. (Editor: Yang Sheng-ru) 1150618
