Crane Overturns, Repair Completed; Taiwan Railways Miaoli to Zhunan Restored to Double-Track Operation

(CNA reporter Huang Chao-wen, Taipei, June 18) This morning, a crane overturned on the tracks between Miaoli and Zhunan while a work unit was performing maintenance, causing temporary single-track, bi-directional operation. Taiwan Railways stated that repairs were completed at 2:40 PM, and double-track operation has been restored.

Taiwan Railways Company received a report at 4:23 AM today that a crane overturned on the western main line (at K129+700) between Miaoli and Zhunan during a maintenance period. The section between Miaoli and Zhunan was temporarily operated on a single track in both directions using the eastern main line. Taiwan Railways immediately established a Level 1 emergency response team.

Taiwan Railways announced via a message that the western main line was cleared and normal double-track operation was restored at 2:40 PM.

Regarding refund and exchange information, Taiwan Railways explained that passengers whose scheduled train services are affected by the track obstruction and meet the criteria for delay refunds may, within one year from the date of travel, present their tickets at any station's ticket window to process a refund without any handling fee.

For passengers who purchased tickets with a credit card, Taiwan Railways indicated that they may, within one year from the date of travel, present their original credit card and ticket to any station to process a refund to their credit card account. Passengers who have their journey interrupted due to the accident may, with their ticket, request a refund of the fare within one year from the date of the incident, with no refund handling fee charged.
