The Freeway Bureau stated today that the estimated highway traffic volume will be 118 million vehicle-kilometers, 1.3 times the annual average of weekdays. Congestion is expected on 10 sections, including Yangmei-Toufen and National Freeway No. 5 southbound from Nangang System to Toucheng. It is recommended that travelers on National Freeway No. 5 southbound depart before 5 AM or after 5 PM.

The Duanwu Festival holiday will last for three days from June 19 to June 21. The Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, issued a press release stating that today, the last working day before the holiday, traffic on the western highway network gradually increased after 4 PM. Affected by heavy rain, some highway sections experienced heavy traffic.

As of 5 PM, according to statistics from the Freeway Bureau, the highway traffic volume was 72.2 million vehicle-kilometers, with an estimated total traffic volume for today of 111 million vehicle-kilometers.

Tomorrow is Duanwu Festival and the first day of the holiday. The Freeway Bureau estimates that the highway traffic volume will be 118 million vehicle-kilometers, 1.3 times the annual average of weekdays (93 million vehicle-kilometers). Of this, southbound traffic is expected to reach 65 million vehicle-kilometers, 1.4 times the annual average of weekdays.

The Freeway Bureau announced its forecast for tomorrow's major congested sections, including National Freeway No. 1 southbound from Airport System Interchange to Yangmei, Yangmei to Toufen, and Changhua System Interchange to Puyan System Interchange; northbound from Yuanshan Interchange to Dahua System Interchange; National Freeway No. 3 southbound from Zhonghe to Guansi, KuaiGuan to Wufeng, and Caotun to Mingjian; National Freeway No. 5 southbound from Nangang System Interchange to Toucheng; National Freeway No. 10 eastbound from Dingjin System Interchange to Yanchao System Interchange, and westbound from Renwu to Zuoying; and other sections.

The Freeway Bureau recommends that drivers traveling southbound on western highways try to depart before 6 AM or after 12 PM, and travelers on National Freeway No. 5 southbound should depart before 5 AM or after 5 PM to save valuable time.

The Freeway Bureau stated that related traffic diversion measures include the closure of southbound ramps at Shiding and Pinglin on National Freeway No. 5 from 12 AM to 12 PM, and at Pingzhen System Interchange and Puyan System Interchange from 5 AM to 12 PM. Other measures include a flat toll rate, an 80% discounted toll rate for National Freeway No. 3 from Hsinchu System Interchange to Yanchao System Interchange, suspension of tolls from 12 AM to 5 AM, opening of shoulders, alternative routes, and ramp metering.
