The shortlist for the 50th Golden Tripod Awards has been officially announced. Legendary 90-year-old author Huang Chun-ming, who recently had an asteroid named after him by National Central University, has been nominated in two categories: the Literary Book Award for his novel 'Grandpa Mountain' and the Book Illustration Award for his essay collection 'Taiwan Grass and Leaves.'
According to the Ministry of Culture, this year's awards saw 1,483 submissions. Following preliminary and secondary reviews, 108 works were shortlisted. The final winners are expected to be revealed in July, with the awards ceremony scheduled for late September.
Competition is particularly fierce this year. In the Literary Book category, Huang Chun-ming faces other acclaimed authors whose works have won major awards such as the Taiwan Literature Award and the Taipei International Book Exhibition Prize, including Lin Chun-ying, Lien Ming-wei, Hon Lai-chu, and Ma Shih-fang.
In the Non-Fiction category, notable entries include Chang Hui-tzu's 'Eldest Daughter Disease' and Lan Pei-chia's 'Becoming a New Second Generation.' The Children’s category features award-winning titles like 'If I Were Sending a Letter' and 'Donggu Safe: Children of the Mountain.'
The editorial and illustration categories also showcase top-tier talent, including design experts like Kao Peng-hsiang, whose work was recognized as one of the 'Most Beautiful Books in the World.' In the magazine section, 'Taiwan Mountain' received its fourth nomination since its relaunch.
The full shortlist is available on the official Golden Tripod Awards website.
