(Central News Agency, New York, June 18, Comprehensive Foreign News) Bloomberg News, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating how Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, established a global investment portfolio involving Wall Street banks.
This move is part of an expanded investigation into allegations of money laundering and corruption, including a strict review of transactions involving institutions under Mojtaba Khamenei's name.
Sources revealed that investigators are examining the role of Bank of America in related transactions, with targets including JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup.
JPMorgan Chase and the U.S. Department of Justice have not yet responded to Reuters' requests for comment, while Citigroup declined to comment.
The report added that this investigation does not necessarily mean charges will be filed and is primarily focused on Mojtaba Khamenei.
After the former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a U.S. and Israeli airstrike, his son Mojtaba Khamenei was chosen as the new Supreme Leader, a position that holds ultimate decision-making power on national affairs, including foreign policy and the nuclear program.
