HANOI (CNA) — The Taiwan Business Scholarship Foundation in Vietnam awarded scholarships to 22 graduate students from Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) on June 18. Representatives from the Taiwanese business community emphasized the significance of collective efforts in supporting local education, while recipients noted that the financial assistance serves as both economic relief and professional encouragement, fueling their aspirations to study in Taiwan.

The foundation presented the 4th Industrial Technology Revitalization Scholarship, benefiting 18 master’s students and 4 doctoral candidates. Each received 15 million VND (approx. NT$18,000) and 20 million VND (approx. NT$24,000) respectively.

Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice President of HUST, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the Taiwanese business community, noting that such initiatives provide essential encouragement for students to pursue advanced research as the university approaches its 70th anniversary.

Hung Chih-hua, Chairman of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, stated that Vietnam has become a vital hub for technology and manufacturing. He emphasized that the future of Taiwan-Vietnam cooperation lies in talent development, expressing hope that these efforts will assist promising young scholars in Vietnam.

Su Chien-yuan, Chairman of the Scholarship Foundation, highlighted the long-term commitment of the organization, noting that the program has supported students across 31 semesters. He remarked that the foundation’s greatest reward is witnessing the academic growth of students, some of whom have been supported from primary school through to university enrollment in Taiwan.

Nguyen Trac Ba, Secretary-General of the Committee for Taiwan Affairs, praised Taiwanese businesses for their long-standing investment and commitment to social responsibility in Vietnam, particularly in the education sector. Many Vietnamese students now view studying in Taiwan as a premier pathway for professional development.

Recipients expressed strong interest in Taiwan’s robust semiconductor and electronics industries. Master’s student Vu Thu Uyen and doctoral student Nguyen Van Doan both identified Taiwan’s technological advancements as key motivations for their desire to pursue future research and exchange programs in Taiwan to contribute to Vietnam’s scientific development.
