Ahead of the Dragon Boat Festival, the Tainan City Police Department launched a special enforcement operation last night to combat drug-impaired driving. The operation resulted in the arrest of 19 individuals for driving under the influence of drugs and 10 for driving under the influence of alcohol. All 29 suspects have been referred to the prosecutor's office on charges of endangering public safety.
According to the Tainan City Police Department, the operation was conducted in coordination with the National Police Agency's nationwide crackdown on drug-impaired driving. A total of 508 officers were deployed across 40 strategic checkpoints, focusing on high-risk areas for drug use and roads surrounding locations of concern for illicit activities.
Statistics from the police department indicate that from January to May, 650 cases of drug-impaired driving have been processed. Authorities stated they will continue to utilize big data analysis to optimize patrol planning and adjust law enforcement strategies to curb the hazards of drug-impaired driving, thereby safeguarding traffic safety and public order.
