(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 20) A man surnamed Chen was arrested by police in Taipei's Zhongshan District in December last year after driving under the influence of amphetamines in New Taipei City's Zhonghe District. A urine test confirmed the presence of amphetamines. The Taipei District Court sentenced him to 4 months in prison for endangering public safety, with the option to commute the sentence to a fine. The ruling is subject to appeal.

Prosecutors indicted that on the evening of December 8 last year, around 6 p.m., Chen used a Schedule II controlled substance, amphetamine, near the No. 4 Park in Zhonghe District, New Taipei City. He then drove his personal car and was stopped by police at the intersection of Jianguo North Road Section 3 and Nong'an Street in Taipei's Zhongshan District.

Police seized an inhaler containing amphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, at the scene. With Chen's consent, police collected a urine sample for testing, which showed positive results for amphetamine (concentration 3080 ng/mL) and methamphetamine (concentration 22600 ng/mL). He was transferred to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of endangering public safety and drug offenses.

Chen confessed to the charges during the investigation. Prosecutors indicted Chen on suspicion of violating the Criminal Code by driving a motor vehicle with a urine concentration of controlled substances and their metabolites exceeding the levels announced by the Executive Yuan, and requested a summary judgment. The Taipei District Court sentenced Chen to 4 months of fixed-term imprisonment on the 17th, with the option to commute the sentence to a fine. The case is subject to appeal.
