(CNA, Taipei, June 21) A member of the CTBC Brothers cheerleading squad, Wenwen, was attacked with a knife yesterday while filming at a private studio. Police preliminary investigation suggests the assailant is a 52-year-old man surnamed Xu, who had been a long-time follower of the cheerleaders. Xu allegedly harbored resentment after being restricted from participating in events, leading to the attack. The motive is under investigation.
Yesterday afternoon, emergency services received a report of a man experiencing an emotional outburst in a residential building near Chongqing North Road, Taipei. Responding officers found it was an outdoor photo studio where a man was attacking a female model with a fruit knife. The stab wound was approximately 5 centimeters long. The assailant was subdued by other photographers present. The injured party was identified as Wenwen, a member of the CTBC Brothers cheerleading squad.
In a joint statement released yesterday, the Brothers team and Macrowell International Entertainment stated, "After professional evaluation by the medical team, Wenwen is currently out of danger and has successfully undergone surgery." The case has been handed over to the police and is proceeding through the judicial process. The team and management company will fully cooperate with the investigation and provide assistance to all involved parties with subsequent matters.
It is understood that the suspect is a 52-year-old man surnamed Xu, who is unemployed and unmarried. Xu had been following cheerleading-related information for a long time, attended events, and spent significant amounts of money on merchandise.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the unemployed Xu's expenses were covered by his parents, and he lived alone in Daan District, Taipei. Due to his long-term participation in cheerleading events, he had reportedly exhibited inappropriate behavior and was repeatedly denied entry by organizers. It is suspected that after registering for an event this time, he became resentful and attacked the victim with a fruit knife he had concealed on his person.
Furthermore, according to relevant court documents, Xu has a history of multiple theft cases and has received medical treatment for an illness, accumulating over 10 medical diagnosis certificates. Upon his arrest for this incident, his family provided these documents to the police.
After being arrested by the police yesterday, Xu was not questioned overnight. Police continued their inquiries into the motive for the crime today. Following the police interrogation, he will be transferred to the Shilin District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of assault and attempted murder. (Edited by Chang Ya-ching) 1150621
