US-Iran War Key News

(CNA Singapore, June 22 - Reuters) Iran has announced the reclosure of the Strait of Hormuz, accusing Israel and the United States of violating a temporary peace agreement. Data from shipping tracker Kpler shows that traffic through the strait has sharply decreased to 5 vessels today, compared to 26 vessels yesterday.

Reuters reported that among the 5 vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz today, 3 were Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), each carrying 2 million barrels of Saudi crude oil and fuel oil, with one en route to Japan.

However, this data may not account for vessels that deliberately turn off their transponders while navigating the Persian Gulf.

Last week, Iran reached an agreement with the United States to extend a ceasefire agreement reached in April by another 60 days to facilitate peace talks, while also lifting the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. However, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of the Tehran authorities announced the reclosure of the strait yesterday in response to Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon.

The US military stated that merchant vessels are still passing through as usual.

Data shows that among the vessels that sailed out of the Strait of Hormuz yesterday, there were 3 VLCCs carrying crude oil from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, and Iraq, and 3 other oil tankers carrying various petroleum products. Among the 13 vessels that entered the strait, there were 2 VLCCs.

In response to the changing US-Iran situation, Gulf oil producers Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) have issued tender announcements to sell crude oil, allowing buyers to choose loading within or outside the Strait of Hormuz.
