(CNA Taipei, June 22) - The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has warned that 13 counties and cities, including greater Taipei, will experience temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius today. Weather expert Wu Der-rong stated that the weather will remain sunny and hot, reaching up to 38 degrees Celsius until the 24th. Typhoon Mikra, currently a moderate typhoon, is forecast to turn north tomorrow and move up along Taiwan's east coast on the 24th and 25th, maintaining a safe distance.

The CWA issued a high-temperature advisory, indicating hot weather across the island. Today, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, Pingtung County, and Hualien County are under an orange alert, with a chance of continuous high temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius. Keelung City, Taoyuan City, Taichung City, Chiayi County, and Kaohsiung City are under a yellow alert, with caution advised for temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius.

Wu Der-rong, an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, stated in his column "Leaking Heavenly Secrets Classroom" on the Foundation for Promotion of Weather Science and Technology that the latest European model simulation shows the Pacific high-pressure system will cover the island from today until the 24th, resulting in continuous sunny and hot weather like midsummer. The highest temperature across Taiwan will exceed 38 degrees Celsius, requiring sun protection and measures against heatstroke.

Wu Der-rong indicated that the latest model simulation shows increased moisture on the 25th, leading to unstable weather with chances of localized brief showers and afternoon convective development. On the 26th and 27th, the last wave of the plum rain season will approach, with the southwest monsoon strengthening, bringing rainfall and heavier showers in the afternoon, and a slight drop in temperature. From June 28th to July 1st, the front will retreat northward, leading to improved weather, rising temperatures, and localized afternoon showers or thunderstorms.

Typhoon Mikra intensified into a moderate typhoon last night. Its center was located approximately 1000 kilometers southeast of Eluanbi in the early hours of today. The central pressure is 955 millibars, with maximum sustained winds near the center at 40 meters per second.

Wu Der-rong pointed out that the CWA's latest "Typhoon Track Probability Forecast Map" shows that Moderate Typhoon Mikra (No. 7) is approaching the waters east of Taiwan from the northwest-west. It is expected to gradually turn north starting tomorrow and move up along Taiwan's east coast on the 24th and 25th, maintaining a safe distance. As it enters waters with lower ocean heat content, it is expected to gradually weaken. It will pass near the Ryukyu Islands on the 26th and accelerate northeastward away from Taiwan on the 27th.

Wu Der-rong stated that the latest European model ensemble simulation tracks are similar to the CWA's forecast, but all show significant uncertainty and require continuous observation. (Edited by: Chang Ya-ching) 1150622
