(CNA) The Ministry of Economic Affairs announced today that the 3-year period for the half-price water consumption fee measure has ended, and the fee will be fully collected this year according to law. Payment notices are expected to be mailed starting July 31. In other words, major water users whose monthly water consumption exceeds 9,000 cubic meters will resume paying the full water consumption fee according to the original standard.

According to the Water Consumption Fee Collection Regulations, the water consumption fee rate is calculated as follows: for water users whose monthly consumption of tap water and surface water exceeds 9,000 cubic meters during the collection period, the excess amount will be charged at NT$3 per cubic meter.

The Water Resources Agency stated today in a press release that the water consumption fee is utilized by the central competent authority, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, for water resource management and the promotion of water conservation policies, to ensure a stable supply of water for daily life and industries, and to maintain the balance of water supply and demand.

The Water Resources Agency stated that this is the fourth year of water consumption fee collection, and the water recycling rate has reached the industry benchmark range, with the number of major water users employing recycled water and investing in water-saving equipment increasing year by year. According to statistics, major water users have saved 75 million tons of water over the past three years.

The Water Resources Agency stated that through annual training sessions and information meetings, the purpose of water consumption fee collection and related matters are continuously promoted to encourage industries to implement water conservation. The Water Resources Agency held five information sessions from May to June this year to remind the public that the water consumption fee will resume full collection this year.

In addition, the Water Resources Agency reminds the public that we have entered the late stage of the plum rain season. Although this round of rainfall has effectively improved the water storage situation in major reservoirs, we must not let our guard down in the face of extreme weather. We urge the public to continue to cultivate the concept of 'saving today's water to quench tomorrow's thirst' and maintain good water conservation habits. (Edited by Pan Yi-ching) 0622
