MLB: Lee Hao-yu's pinch-hit double leads Tigers to extra-inning win over White Sox

(CNA Taipei, June 22) The Detroit Tigers faced the Chicago White Sox today in Major League Baseball. In the bottom of the 7th inning, Taiwanese player Lee Hao-yu came up as a pinch hitter and hit his 5th double of the season. He went 1-for-2 at the plate, and the Tigers won 5-4 in extra innings.

Taiwanese player Lee Hao-yu was not in the starting lineup for the Tigers' game against the White Sox today. Neither team scored in the first four innings. In the bottom of the 5th, the Tigers took the lead with a timely hit from Zach McKinstry. In the top of the 6th, Luisangel Acuna hit a two-run homer for the White Sox to take the lead.

The White Sox added another run in the top of the 7th with a timely double from Tristan Peters. In the bottom of the 7th, with one out, the Tigers brought in Lee Hao-yu to pinch hit. He hit a double to left field off White Sox relief pitcher Bryan Hudson, but his teammates couldn't extend the rally.

In the bottom of the 8th, the Tigers narrowed the deficit with a solo home run from Dillon Dingler. In the bottom of the 9th, Lee Hao-yu struck out. With two outs, the Tigers scored the tying run with three consecutive hits, tying the game 3-3 and sending it into extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, the White Sox scored one run on a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the 10th, Spencer Torkelson hit a game-tying single for the Tigers, and Matt Vierling followed with a walk-off hit to secure the victory.

Lee Hao-yu, pinch hitting today, later took over at second base in the latter half of the game. He had one hit in two at-bats, and his batting average is now .231.

Will Vest, a relief pitcher, earned the win in extra innings. He pitched one inning, allowing no hits and one unearned run. He picked up his 3rd win of the season, and his ERA is now 5.92. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150622
