Central News Agency (CNA) reported on the 22nd that DPP legislative caucus convener Tsai Chi-chang urged the TPP caucus to initiate discussions with KMT caucus convener Fu Kun-chi regarding the abolition of the Control Yuan. TPP caucus convener Chen Ching-lung responded by calling on the DPP to support a freeze on the Control Yuan, including slashing non-essential budgets and rejecting all new Control Commissioner nominees.
Tsai stated that the DPP has long advocated for the abolition of both the Examination and Control Yuans. He argued that if the KMT and TPP could reach a consensus, a three-party agreement would effectively enable the abolition.
Chen countered that the DPP has held power for a decade without taking concrete action to abolish the institution, instead continuing to appoint commissioners. He accused the DPP of lacking sincerity and using the issue as a political tactic. The TPP proposes a formal constitutional amendment process, suggesting a freeze on operations—except for statutory expenditures—and a total rejection of new nominees in the interim.
TPP legislator Chen Chao-chih stated that if the DPP is serious, they should submit a constitutional amendment bill, which the TPP would support. Meanwhile, the New Power Party (NPP) criticized all three major parties, noting that despite superficial consensus, the Constitutional Amendment Committee has remained inactive for two years. The NPP argued that instead of budget cuts or political maneuvering, the parties should pursue genuine constitutional reform to return oversight functions to the executive and legislative branches.
