(CNA) - Foreign media reports indicate that negotiations on economic cooperation between Lithuania and Taiwan have been temporarily suspended. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed today that the economic cooperation plan has been put on hold due to a reshuffle in the Lithuanian government, and that the friendly cooperation between the two sides is not affected by any third party.

Lithuanian national broadcaster LRT reported that the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Lithuania and the Taiwanese Representative Office in Lithuania have jointly decided to suspend negotiations related to the "Action Plan for Economic Cooperation" primarily due to "changes in the domestic political environment." LRT also reported on the 18th that Lithuania has proposed a plan to agree to the establishment of a provisional office by China.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' regular press conference this morning, spokesperson Ou-Yang Hsiu-chuan confirmed in response to media inquiries that the economic cooperation plan has been temporarily suspended due to the Lithuanian government reshuffle.

Ou-Yang Hsiu-chuan emphasized that Taiwan and Lithuania are close partners based on shared values of democracy, freedom, and human rights. Since the mutual establishment of representative offices, exchanges between the governments and peoples of the two countries have become increasingly frequent, and they have worked together to promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields, jointly creating economic and trade benefits and strengthening the resilience of democratic economies. The friendly cooperation between the two sides is not affected by any third party.

Ou-Yang Hsiu-chuan stated that Taiwan has always supported international relations based on democratic values, the rule of law, and transparent dialogue. Taiwan will continue to deepen cooperation with Lithuania and other like-minded countries, develop mutually beneficial bilateral relations based on the principle of mutual respect, and jointly safeguard the rules-based international order, promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and Europe.
