On June 23, the Hungdao Senior Citizen's Welfare Foundation held a nutrition workshop at its 'Yuanlin Hospitality Center' in Changhua. The program, attended by 22 seniors over seven sessions, focused on protein-rich meal planning and proper food storage techniques.
Nutritionist Wang Yu-chen identified common issues among the elderly, such as improper mixing of raw and cooked foods, overstocking, and the accumulation of expired items. The curriculum taught essential management skills, including the 'first-in, first-out' storage principle, proper layering (cooked food on top), and maintaining refrigerator capacity at 70% to ensure food safety and freshness. Participants were encouraged to act as 'fridge managers' to track expiration dates and nutritional balance.
Building on this foundation, the Yuanlin Hospitality Center will launch a community dining service starting in July. Groups of 5 to 10 residents can book the facility to collaboratively plan menus, prepare meals, and dine together. This initiative aims to foster community bonds while promoting sustainable healthy eating habits among seniors and the local public.
