(San Francisco, June 23, Central News Agency, Comprehensive Foreign News) Artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic's large model Mythos discovered security vulnerabilities in highly sensitive U.S. government computer systems during a test exercise, the Associated Press (AP) reported today.

The report stated that Anthropic collaborated with Washington intelligence agencies in a classified project called "Project Glasswing" for the test. This project aims to identify and fix security flaws in critical software systems before hackers can exploit them.

Virginia Senator Mark Warner mentioned this test at a congressional hearing this month. He stated that he had been informed by National Security Agency (NSA) Director Joshua Rudd that the Mythos model "broke through almost all of our classified systems not in weeks, but in hours."

However, the AP quoted an unnamed U.S. official as saying that while Mythos discovered some vulnerabilities within hours, it does not mean the model could exploit these vulnerabilities to launch an attack in the same timeframe.

In response to related reports, the White House, Anthropic, and the U.S. Department of Defense did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

The relationship between Anthropic, which is preparing for its initial public offering (IPO), and the U.S. government has been strained recently. Anthropic had refused to allow the U.S. military to use its AI models for domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapon systems, and the U.S. government retaliated by placing Anthropic on a national security blacklist.

Furthermore, the U.S. government, citing national security concerns, ordered Anthropic this month to suspend exports of its latest Mythos and Fable AI models to all foreign countries and all foreigners.

The New York Times had earlier reported that due to ongoing disputes, the U.S. National Security Agency had lost access to the Mythos model. (Compiled by Xu Ruicheng) 06/24/115
