Taipei, June 24 (CNA) The 2026 Taipei International Food Show opened today, with the Council of Agriculture (COA) creating a "Taiwan Pavilion" designed like a premium supermarket. Following Taiwan's re-designation as an African Swine Fever-free region, the meat industry associations of Taiwan, Singapore, and the Philippines signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), with COA Minister Chen Chun-chen witnessing the event.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the "Taiwan Pavilion," Chen Chun-chen stated that the Taipei International Food Show holds a significant position among international food exhibitions. This year, the main theme of the "Taiwan Pavilion" is that Taiwanese agricultural products are the only choice. The exhibition area is presented as a premium supermarket, featuring everything from fresh produce, processed goods, ready-to-eat meals, to snacks, allowing buyers to experience a diverse range of products in one location.
Chen Chun-chen mentioned that a total of 93 excellent manufacturers were invited to participate, covering agricultural produce, fisheries, livestock, and organic products. All participating manufacturers have been strictly vetted by the COA, ensuring compliance with relevant hygiene and safety regulations from origin, production management, on-farm pesticide control, to packaging and grading, providing buyers with peace of mind in their procurement and consumers with confidence in their consumption.
The Taiwan Meat Industry Association signed MOUs with the Singapore Meat Association and the Philippine Association of Meat Processors, Inc. at the "Taiwan Pavilion."
Chen Chun-chen stated that after the first case of African Swine Fever was discovered in Taiwan in October last year, through the collective efforts of all parties, Taiwan was re-recognized by the World Organisation for Animal Health in April this year as an African Swine Fever and classical Foot-and-Mouth Disease-free region. This demonstrates that relevant trade cooperation is built upon epidemic prevention achievements and the joint efforts of the industry.
Chen Chun-chen emphasized that agricultural development needs to be guided by market demand from the downstream, which in turn influences upstream production. Only with stable and smooth export markets can upstream production be maintained. The COA has been actively creating more export opportunities in recent years, aiming not just to find single buyers but to establish reliable, trustworthy, and long-term international trade partnerships to increase local industry income and support the sustainable development of Taiwan's agriculture.
