(CNA) U.S. memory and chip stocks pulled back, causing Taiwan stocks to open lower today, down over 1000 points. The early trading session saw a low of 46047.89 points, with heavy selling pressure in the electronics and semiconductor sectors, while financial and traditional industries also weakened.
King of stocks, TSMC, fell to NT$2435 in early trading, down NT$55 or 2.21%. MediaTek fell over 5%, hitting a low of NT$4300. United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) is reportedly cooperating with Intel, and its stock price rose against the trend by over 2% in early trading, reaching a high of NT$174, before its gains narrowed and it fluctuated below the flat line.
