National Freeway 1 Chiayi Taibao Section Accident on June 22nd Night Causes 2 Deaths, Suspected Due to Inattention to Road Ahead

(Central News Agency, reporter Cai Zhiming, Chiayi County, 24th) A serious traffic accident occurred on National Freeway 1 in the Taibao section of Chiayi on the night of June 22nd. A man surnamed Huang, driving, allegedly failed to pay attention to the road ahead and rear-ended the vehicle in front, resulting in 2 deaths and 3 injuries. Police stated that the drivers of the involved vehicles were not under the influence of alcohol, and the exact cause of the accident is under further investigation.

The Fourth Highway Police Brigade of the National Highway Police Bureau announced today that a traffic accident occurred at 10:34 PM on June 22nd at kilometer 262.4 northbound on National Freeway 1 (Chiayi Taibao section). A 35-year-old man surnamed Huang, driving in the inner lane, allegedly failed to pay attention to the road ahead and rear-ended a sedan driven by a 40-year-old woman surnamed Xu.

Police said that due to the strong impact, Ms. Xu's vehicle lost control upon being hit, veered from the inner lane into the middle lane, and then scraped against a sedan driven by a 51-year-old woman surnamed Zhou. Parts and debris were scattered at the scene of the accident.

Police reported that two female passengers in Ms. Xu's car, aged 66 and 31, sustained severe injuries. They had no vital signs when rescued by firefighters and paramedics and were pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. Additionally, Mr. Huang, Ms. Xu, and another passenger in Ms. Xu's car sustained abrasions, contusions, and discomfort. They were treated at the hospital and are not in life-threatening condition.

Police stated that all parties involved in the accident were not under the influence of alcohol. Preliminary judgment suggests the accident was related to inattention to the road conditions ahead.
