(Central News Agency, reporter Wu Ruiqi, Taoyuan, June 24) Internet celebrity Lin, known for her parenting content, was allegedly driving under the influence on June 22 while picking up her daughter, causing a collision with two cars and crashing through the glass storefront of a helmet shop. Prosecutors requested her detention, and the Taoyuan District Court ordered her to be detained for two months late on June 23, citing her suspected continued drug use and high risk of reoffending.

Police stated today that an investigation revealed Lin was driving to pick up her 3-year-old daughter on June 22 when she lost control of her vehicle in Taoyuan District, consecutively hitting two cars before crashing through the glass window of a helmet shop. Fortunately, no one was injured. Upon arrival, police noticed Lin's abnormal condition and conducted a test, which returned a positive result for drugs. Related evidence, including vape cartridges containing etonitazene, was found in the car. The case was subsequently transferred to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office for investigation. It was later revealed by the public that Lin is a well-known parenting influencer.

After a second interrogation on the afternoon of June 23, prosecutors determined that Lin was a major suspect for crimes including endangering public safety by driving under the influence and violations of the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act. Given the significant danger posed to her young daughter and the public, prosecutors requested her detention from the court.

The court's ruling stated that Lin admitted to drug use, and evidence such as rapid test kits and law enforcement records corroborated this, indicating strong suspicion of criminal activity. Police seized drugs and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle, and Lin was able to clearly describe how she used them. The court found it difficult to consider this an isolated incident of drug use, given the highly addictive and abusable nature of the drugs. Lin's decision to drive after using drugs demonstrated weak self-control and a potential for repeated commission of similar offenses.

Furthermore, according to the case file, police observed Lin to be disoriented when she exited the vehicle. The incident involved collisions with other road users and vehicles, as well as crashing into a store, causing considerable harm. Considering the nature of the crime and the principle of proportionality, the court found that the defendant posed a risk of reoffending and that detention was both warranted and necessary. Therefore, she was ordered to be detained for two months. (Editor: Li Shuhua) 1150624
