Local Diver Missing in Xiaoliuqiu Found Deceased

(Central News Agency, reporter Huang Yu-ching, Pingtung County, June 24) A 34-year-old local male diver in Xiaoliuqiu went missing after entering the water yesterday. The Coast Guard and fire department were alerted and dispatched search teams, with enthusiastic citizens also joining the search. After approximately 7 hours of searching, the diver was found by a fishing boat around 2 AM today, already deceased.

The Pingtung County Government Fire Department issued a statement today, stating that they received a report at 6:53 PM yesterday about a diver missing near the Houshi Reefs in Liuchiu Township. According to the report, the diver entered the water with the intention of going offshore but was not seen returning to shore. The Liuchiu detachment was dispatched with 2 vehicles and 5 personnel to assist in the search, coordinating with the rescue association and the Coast Guard, and the police department was notified.

The Fire Department stated that at 2:17 AM today, the missing person's brother called to report that he had been found approximately 300 meters offshore from the reported location and was being transported to Dafu Fishing Harbor by a diving boat. At 2:36 AM, it was reported that the drowned individual was clearly deceased, and the scene was handed over to the family and police for processing.

The Fifth Coastal Patrol Team of the Southern Branch of the Coast Guard Administration stated that the male surnamed Cai is a local resident.
