(CNA, reporter Chang Yi-lien, Kaohsiung, June 24) Kaohsiung police were alerted today to a person found lying on the metal roof of a vacant house, apparently deceased. Investigation revealed the deceased to be a man surnamed Chou, who is suspected to have died from electrocution while attempting to steal electrical wires from the vacant property. Police have collected evidence from the scene and requested a prosecutor for an autopsy to clarify the cause of death and the circumstances of the incident.

Officers from the Fengshan Precinct of the Kaohsiung City Police Department explained that the Chenggong Police Station received a report around 8:30 AM today stating that a person was found lying on the metal roof of a balcony at a vacant house on Wujia 1st Road in Fengshan District, apparently deceased.

Police stated that the reporting person, a 51-year-old man surnamed Li, had discovered the person lying on the metal roof around 6:30 PM yesterday. However, due to fear and uncertainty about how to proceed, he only reported the incident to the police this morning.

According to the preliminary investigation by the police, the location is an unoccupied vacant house. The deceased is a 47-year-old man surnamed Chou. Items such as wire cutters and severed electrical wires were found at the scene. It is suspected that Mr. Chou was electrocuted and lost his life while attempting to steal electrical wires after breaking into the vacant house.

Police have cordoned off the scene and forensic personnel have been dispatched to collect evidence. A request has also been made to the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office for an autopsy to clarify the cause of death and the circumstances of the incident. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150624
