(CNA Lima, June 23, Comprehensive Foreign News) The final stages of the presidential runoff vote count in Peru are underway, with official statistics indicating that right-wing presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori holds an unassailable lead.

According to data released online by Peru's National Electoral Processes Office (ONPE), with 99.86% of the votes counted, Fujimori has secured approximately 50.12% of the vote, leading her left-wing opponent Roberto Sanchez by over 43,000 votes.

Election officials need to process 131 ballot boxes, representing about 39,000 votes, before declaring a winner. This number is insufficient for Sanchez to achieve a comeback victory.

Reuters reports that approximately 42,130 votes may still be pending.

Sanchez stated that he will not recognize a government led by Keiko Fujimori, citing "serious irregularities in the electoral process." He claims that electoral authorities committed administrative violations in handling overseas ballots. Overseas ballots, numbering around 300,000, largely supported Fujimori, who is backed by many voters in the United States and Japan.

Fujimori's party stated that they will wait until the vote count is complete before declaring victory.

Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, is running for president for the fourth time and is poised to become Peru's first female president elected through direct elections.

The president-elect will take office on July 28 for a five-year term. (Compiled by Lu Ying-tzu) 1150624
