Taipei, June 24 (CNA) The Ministry of Education's Youth Development Administration announced the results of the second phase of the "Youth Career Navigation Program" recently. A total of 415 youths were selected in the first and second phases, with each receiving a maximum subsidy of NT$285,000. The selected youths will begin their two-year career exploration and learning journey in August.
The Youth Development Administration stated in a press release today that in response to the rapidly changing social environment and employment trends, the administration has promoted the "Youth Career Navigation Program" to encourage graduating high school and vocational school students to step away from traditional academic pathways and engage in a two-year exploration process. Youths can independently propose projects based on their personal interests, goals, and pace.
The Youth Development Administration indicated that the selected youths this year have proposed projects covering areas such as workplace experience, volunteer service, adventurous exploration, and apprenticeships with experts. One youth, who has been training in football since elementary school and noticed the differences between the football environments in Taiwan and internationally, plans to go to South Korea for training and team exchanges. Another youth, passionate about creation and design, will travel to places like the United Kingdom, France, and Australia for cultural exploration, visiting design studios, brand companies, and creative venues.
To support youths in bravely pursuing their dreams, the Youth Development Administration provides a subsidy of up to NT$285,000 for each participating youth, along with support for further education and military service. Mentors will also be assigned to accompany the youths throughout the program, assisting them in transforming their ideals into concrete actions. This allows youths to break free from the established frameworks of further education and employment, and to deeply explore their own interests, abilities, and future directions.
The Youth Development Administration mentioned that the two-year Gap Year is a precious "value-adding period" in these youths' lives. To help youths implement their plans more steadily, the administration will hold a "Selected Youth Consensus Camp" from July 23 to 24 at the Chientan Youth Activity Center in Taipei. The camp will feature one-on-one discussions with mentors and self-selected thematic courses to help youths prepare for their upcoming exploration journey. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150624
