(Central News Agency, reporter Chang Yi-lien, Kaohsiung, June 24) A man surnamed Cheng was in a friend's car early this morning when, while passing through Niaosong District, Kaohsiung, their vehicle was overtaken and blocked by another car. Cheng was subsequently taken away by three men. Later, Cheng jumped out of the car while it was passing through Fengshan District and reported the incident to the police. Police stated that they have identified the vehicle involved and are pursuing the suspects.
Officers from the Renwu Precinct of the Kaohsiung City Police Department explained that police received a report around midnight regarding a car-blocking incident on Zhongyi Road in Niaosong District (near the intersection of Hengshan Lane). The driver of the blocked vehicle was a 36-year-old man surnamed Lian, the front passenger was a 24-year-old man surnamed Ye, and the rear passenger was a 34-year-old man surnamed Cheng.
Police stated that as the vehicle was passing through Zhongyi Road near the Hengshan Lane intersection in Niaosong District, a white private car overtook them on the left and blocked their path. Subsequently, three men got out of the white car, opened the rear door with their bare hands, and took Cheng away.
Police mentioned that Cheng was put into the trunk of the white car. About 10 minutes later, when the car was passing through the intersection of Jianguo Road Section 3 and Qingnian Road Section 2 in Fengshan District, Cheng took the opportunity to jump out of the car and escape, seeking help at a nearby convenience store.
Police stated that Cheng claimed he was attacked with a brick by the suspects and sustained injuries to his limbs, but is not in serious condition after being sent to the hospital for treatment. Preliminary understanding is that Cheng stated he was out with friends to discuss a vehicle sale, and was intercepted by strangers. Cheng claimed he did not understand their intentions.
Police pointed out that they have identified the vehicle involved by reviewing surveillance footage and are continuing to investigate the identities of the related suspects. The case is being investigated for offenses including unlawful restraint and assault. (Edited by Huang Ming-hsi) 06/24/115
