(CNA reporter Chang Hsiung-feng Taipei, June 25) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) launched heavy rain operations today at 11 AM in response to the intense rainfall brought by Typhoon Mikala and the strengthening southwest monsoon. The forecast predicts that the highest rainfall in the next 24 hours will be in the mountainous areas of Kaohsiung and Pingtung, reaching 200 to 340 millimeters, with Pingtung County's plains expected to receive the most total rainfall over the next 3 days, up to 800 millimeters.

The CWA initiated large-scale or intense heavy rain operations today at 11 AM in response to the "0625 Typhoon Outer Circumference and Southwest Monsoon Heavy Rain Event."

According to the CWA's 24-hour rainfall forecast, from 2 PM today to 2 PM tomorrow, the plains in Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County will receive the most rainfall, ranging from 200 to 340 millimeters. New Taipei City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, and Tainan City will receive 150 to 250 millimeters.

For mountainous areas in the next 24 hours, Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County will also receive the most rainfall, ranging from 200 to 340 millimeters, followed by Chiayi County with 200 to 300 millimeters. Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taichung City, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, and Taitung County will receive 150 to 250 millimeters.

The forecast for the total rainfall over 3 days from today to the 27th indicates that mountainous areas in Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County will receive the most, ranging from 500 to 700 millimeters, followed by Taitung County with 300 to 500 millimeters. Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taichung City, Nantou County, Chiayi County, Yilan County, and Hualien County will receive approximately 200 to 400 millimeters.

The forecast for total rainfall in the plains over the next 3 days shows Pingtung County receiving the most, ranging from 500 to 800 millimeters, followed by Kaohsiung City with 500 to 700 millimeters, Tainan City with 400 to 600 millimeters, and Chiayi County, Taipei City, and New Taipei City with 200 to 400 millimeters.
