(Central News Agency, reporter Chang Chien-chung, Hsinchu, June 25) The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) today announced the winners of the ITRI Elite Awards, with three "Outstanding Research Awards" and two gold awards for "Industrialization Contribution Awards." These technologies primarily focus on "AI and Next-Generation Communication Applications" and "Net-Zero Sustainability Contributions."

ITRI Vice President Lee Tsung-ming stated that the key to selecting the ITRI Elite Awards is not just technological leadership, but also the ability to solve real industry pain points and create market value.

Lee Tsung-ming pointed out that the five award-winning technological achievements this year include three Outstanding Research Awards: High-Efficiency Low-Temperature Ammonia-Free Denitration Technology, Ultra-High Frequency GaN-on-Si Technology and System Verification Platform, and Satellite Communication High-Frequency RF Component Technology. The two Industrialization Contribution Awards are AI-Empowered Scale Demonstration for All Industries and High-Efficiency Rare-Earth-Free EC Fan Motor Technology.

Lee Tsung-ming said that the awarded technologies can be mainly divided into two major themes: "AI and Next-Generation Communication Applications" and "Net-Zero Sustainability Contributions." Each technology starts from industry needs and is driven by market orientation in R&D, allowing technology to move out of the laboratory and transform into actual corporate orders and international competitiveness.

AI-Empowered Scale Demonstration for All Industries creates replicable and scalable AI integration path solutions, addressing pain points such as talent and method shortages for small and medium-sized enterprises. It has currently assisted 2,000 cross-industry enterprises, including Uni-President Supermarket and PTS (Public Television Service), in adopting AI. In collaboration with Uni-President Supermarket, AI image recognition has been implemented in X-STORE.

High-Efficiency Rare-Earth-Free EC Fan Motor Technology develops domestic rare-earth-free electronically commutated (EC) motors, which are 40% more energy-efficient than traditional motors. This helps improve the energy efficiency of air conditioning equipment by 5% to 11%, while also eliminating reliance on rare-earth materials and strengthening the domestic independent supply chain.

High-Efficiency Low-Temperature Ammonia-Free Denitration Technology can efficiently remove nitrogen oxides (NOx) at relatively low temperatures. It has assisted the textile industry in establishing pollution control equipment for coal-fired boilers with a steam output of 12 tons per hour and obtained permits. It has also been licensed to environmental companies for application in semiconductor exhaust gas treatment, turning carbon reduction pressure into tangible business opportunities.

Ultra-High Frequency GaN-on-Si Technology and System Verification Platform targets the challenges of the 6G and satellite communication era. It uses the mature 8-inch wafer manufacturing process of the semiconductor industry to produce high-frequency chips, saving considerable electricity costs for businesses. It also integrates chips, antennas, and heat dissipation into small modules. In the future, mobile phones and cars will be able to connect directly to satellites without external bulky equipment. This technology has been transferred or collaborated with over 60 companies, helping Taiwan enter the 6G and satellite communication supply chain.
