(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 25) To meet the urgent and short-term care needs of the public, the Ministry of Labor has promoted the Hourly Migrant Worker Program, providing services in 16 cities and counties across Taiwan. As of the end of May, cumulative service hours have exceeded 80,000, with long-term service usage accounting for 58%, making it the most requested service type.
To meet the domestic demand for caregiving manpower, the Ministry of Labor has launched the "Diversified Companion Care Service Pilot Program," also known as the Hourly Migrant Worker Program. This allows the public to apply for caregiving manpower from non-profit organizations at their own expense. A total of 13 pilot units are providing services in 16 cities and counties nationwide.
The Diversified Companion Care Service Pilot Program was launched in early April last year. The Ministry of Labor's Workforce Development Agency announced today in a press release that as of the end of May this year, cumulative service hours have surpassed 80,000. Among these, long-term services used by care recipients accounted for 58%, which is the most common type of application. In terms of satisfaction surveys, 92% of users expressed satisfaction with the service.
In Taichung, a 90-year-old grandmother, Ms. Su, urgently needed care after spinal surgery. Facing an unexpected care gap, her daughter applied for long-term services of 10 to 12 hours through the Diversified Companion Care Service Pilot Program to cover the period before her foreign caregiver arrived.
The Workforce Development Agency stated that the fees and service items for the Diversified Companion Care Service Pilot Program are fully disclosed on the official website. When applying, individuals can flexibly choose service hours ranging from 4 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours, to 24 hours. The public often lacks 12-hour long-term or nighttime home care services, and this program effectively supplements the manpower shortage.
The agency added that currently, 13 non-profit organizations across Taiwan provide Diversified Companion Care Services. If families have temporary or short-term companionship and care needs, they can visit the "Diversified Companion Care Service Website" or call the toll-free hotline 1955 for consultation.
