According to reports from NHK, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred off the coast of Tohoku, Japan, at approximately 7:30 AM local time today. The tremors reached a maximum seismic intensity of 6 Strong in Aomori Prefecture and 5 Strong in Iwate Prefecture. Meteorological authorities have indicated that the earthquake may cause minor sea level fluctuations in coastal areas of Japan; however, there is currently no risk of tsunami damage.
