TOKYO (CNA) — A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Iwate Prefecture, Japan, at approximately 8:58 p.m. local time on June 25 (7:58 p.m. Taipei time). The epicenter was located at a depth of 50 kilometers. The highest seismic intensity of 4 was registered in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture. Authorities confirmed there is no risk of a tsunami, although tremors were felt across Aomori, Iwate, and Miyagi prefectures.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), seismic intensity 3 was observed in several areas, including Sannohe, Gonohe, Nanbu, and Hashikami in Aomori Prefecture, as well as Morioka, Ninohe, Hachimantai, and Karumai in Iwate Prefecture.
Additionally, seismic intensity 2 was recorded in various areas across Aomori, Iwate, and Miyagi, while intensity 1 was felt in Hakodate City, Hokkaido, and parts of Akita, Miyagi, Iwate, and Aomori prefectures. The JMA continues to monitor the situation and advises residents to stay updated on further seismic activity.
