Following the conclusion of the 21st WSBL season, the women's national basketball team has shifted focus to the Asian Games scheduled for September in Nagoya. The Chinese Taipei Basketball Association (CTBA) has appointed Kenzo Maeda as the new head coach. Cathay Life women’s basketball head coach Cheng Hui-yun stated that she has been consulting with Maeda since April to help him familiarize himself with the team's roster.
During a celebration for Cathay's 33rd consecutive title, Cheng noted that while Maeda began scouting players in mid-April, collaborative efforts were initially limited due to Cathay's league commitments. Following a brief medical leave for knee surgery in June, Cheng resumed regular meetings with Maeda to evaluate his training methodologies.
Cheng emphasized that she maintains a professional distance regarding roster selection to respect Maeda’s authority as the head coach. Meanwhile, team members have shared initial impressions of the new staff. Huang Ling-chuan remarked that the transition is a long-term process, while Zheng Yi-xiu noted that Coach Maeda is prioritizing defensive intensity and speed as key areas for improvement.
