Two Major Earthquakes Strike Venezuela; China’s Foreign Ministry Reports No Casualties Among Its Citizens

Taipei, June 25 — A series of powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela yesterday evening, resulting in at least 32 deaths and over 700 injuries. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today that there are no reports of casualties involving Chinese citizens.

According to reports from international media, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a magnitude 7.2 earthquake approximately 160 kilometers west of Caracas, followed by a magnitude 7.5 tremor less than a minute later. Preliminary estimates suggest the death toll could range between 10,000 and 100,000.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated during a routine press conference on the afternoon of the 25th that China is closely monitoring the disaster and maintaining contact with the Chinese Embassy in Venezuela. As of now, no Chinese citizens have been reported dead or injured.

Guo conveyed China's condolences to the Venezuelan government and the affected population, expressing confidence that they will overcome the disaster and rebuild. China remains prepared to provide assistance as needed by the Venezuelan side.
