(CNA reporter Yu Hsiao-han, Taipei, June 29) Heavy rains caused by the outer circulation of Typhoon Mekhala have led to disasters. Chunghwa Post Co., Ltd. issued a press release today stating that it will relax and accelerate the claims process, extend premium payment deadlines, offer interest-free policy loans, and allow mortgage holders to apply for grace periods.
Chunghwa Post said that for policyholders who unfortunately pass away, beneficiaries can apply for death benefits first by submitting relevant supporting documents. For injured policyholders, after confirming the number of hospitalization days, they can apply for daily medical benefits first, and claim documents can be submitted later.
Chunghwa Post stated that within 3 months from the date of the disaster, if there are insufficient funds in the deposit to deduct insurance premiums via transfer, policyholders can submit disaster victim certificates to apply for an additional 3-month extension of the grace period beyond the original grace period (3 months from the premium due date). Within 3 months from the date of the disaster, affected policyholders can apply for interest-free policy loans for 3 months.
Chunghwa Post said that within 3 months from the date of the disaster, affected mortgage holders can apply for a 1-year grace period, during which only interest payments are required, with no principal repayment. If affected households meet Chunghwa Post's relevant regulations, they can apply for small renovation loans ranging from NT$200,000 to NT$500,000 within 3 months from the date of the disaster.
