Cheng Li-wen: Han Kuo-yu's US visit received high-level reception, showing KMT's effective exchanges

(CNA reporter Liu Guan-ting, Taipei, June 29) Kuomintang (KMT) Chairwoman Cheng Li-wen said today that Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-yu's visit to the United States received a high-level reception, signifying that the Speaker of the Republic of China's legislature is valued and that the KMT's external exchanges are effective. She criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for deliberately comparing her with Han, attempting to sow discord and exploit divisions, but stated the KMT will not fall for it.

Han Kuo-yu recently led a cross-party delegation of legislators to visit Washington D.C. Upon his return to Taiwan on the 27th, he stated in an interview that all four major objectives were achieved, and he could feel the strong support and friendship from the U.S. Congress towards Taiwan. He also mentioned that issues concerning Taiwanese businesses and their suppliers have been conveyed to the U.S. Congress and relevant departments.

The KMT issued a press release stating that Cheng Li-wen said today at the Taoyuan City Women's Elite Leaders Growth Camp that Han Kuo-yu's U.S. visit received a high-level reception, signifying that the Speaker of the Republic of China's legislature is valued and that the KMT's external exchanges are effective.

Cheng Li-wen said that the DPP is narrow-minded and petty, deliberately comparing her with Han Kuo-yu in an attempt to sow discord and exploit divisions, but the KMT will not fall for it. She added that the KMT's visibility on the international stage is the result of the collective efforts of the entire team and will not be undermined by the DPP's manipulative tactics.

Regarding the local elections at the end of the year, Cheng Li-wen stated that Taoyuan must not only win but win decisively in the upcoming elections. She emphasized the need to win the mayoral race and also secure victories in the legislative councilor elections. She urged the female cadres present to leverage their networks of friends and relatives across Taiwan to spread the KMT's positive energy, ensuring a victory at the end of the year and, most importantly, achieving a party rotation in power in 2028.

She stressed that the KMT's local governance achievements are outstanding. From Yilan to Hualien and Taitung, the important roles played by female politicians in the KMT are evident. In areas like Taichung, Nantou, Changhua, Yunlin, and Chiayi, female county magistrates and mayors have delivered impressive results, enhancing the KMT's governing reputation. "Blue governance is a guarantee of quality," she asserted, highlighting that the KMT is more diligent, more capable, and, most importantly, possesses warmth and compassion.

Discussing the cross-strait situation, Cheng Li-wen pointed out that all foreign friends are most concerned about preventing war in the Taiwan Strait. She warned that the consequences of a conflict would be many times more severe than the Russia-Ukraine war, and a blockade of the Taiwan Strait would have a more serious impact than the Strait of Hormuz. With the escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait, Japan, mainland China, the Korean Peninsula, and the South China Sea, she urged that action must be taken now to prove the existence of peaceful options and to fully avoid war and rapidly de-escalate cross-strait tensions, rather than regretting it after an incident occurs.
