Nangan-Dongyin Route Adds Small Vessels, Trial of Extra Wednesday Service for 2 Months Starting July 1

(CNA, reporter Pan Xintong, Lienchiang County, June 30) The Lienchiang County Government is promoting a new operating model for the Dongyin-Nangan sea route this year, with some sailings operated by the small vessel "Nanbei Star No. 2." The Dongyin Township Office and Township Representatives successfully lobbied for an additional one-way trip from Nangan to Dongyin every Wednesday, which will be trialed for two months starting tomorrow.

Chen Ru-lan, Director of the Lienchiang County Tourism and Transportation Bureau, told CNA reporters by phone today that without increasing county treasury expenditures, a new operating model for the Nangan-Dongyin sea route is being promoted this year. Its main feature is the addition of deployable vessels. In addition to the original large transport ships like the "New Taiwan-Ma Lun," the 500-ton vessel "Nanbei Star No. 2," and the county government's own "Donghai Mingzhu" have joined operations, enhancing maritime convenience.

Chen Ru-lan said that due to the introduction of smaller vessels on the Nangan-Dongyin route, the cost per voyage has been effectively reduced. In June, the Dongyin Township Office and the Dongyin Township Representatives requested the county government to add one extra one-way trip from Nangan to Dongyin each week, to facilitate residents' needs such as medical treatment in Nangan, or to allow those taking the Small Three Links to return to Dongyin on the same day they arrive back in Matsu. After evaluating the relevant costs, the county government agreed to the trial in July and August.

According to the shipping company's announcement, during the trial period of the extra service on the Nangan-Dongyin route, sailings will depart from Nangan Fuao Port for Dongyin Zhongzhu Port every Wednesday at 4:30 PM. The voyage time will be approximately 70 minutes to 2 hours, depending on factors such as vessel size and sea conditions. The first trial voyage tomorrow will be operated by the large transport ship "Taiwan-Ma Star."

According to news materials from the Lienchiang County Tourism and Transportation Bureau, to ensure that Dongyin residents fully understand the new operating model, an explanation meeting will be held in Dongyin on the 10th. The meeting will explain the planning concepts, operational framework, and expected benefits, and will broadly collect local opinions as a reference for future policies.
