National Palace Museum Southern Branch's Summer Family Art Month Invites Public to Learn About National Treasures and Beat the Heat

(CNA, reporter Cai Zhiming, Chiayi County, June 30) The National Palace Museum Southern Branch's "2026 Summer Family Art Month" opened today. Through game design, it guides people of all ages to learn about national treasures and acquire new knowledge. The event runs until August 30.

National Palace Museum Director General Dr. Shiao Chung-chiang said that the Southern Branch has very strong air conditioning and welcomes everyone to come and cool off.

The National Palace Museum Southern Branch invited the Tianma Circus Creation Troupe for an opening performance today. Shiao, Peng Zicheng, Director of the NPM Southern Branch, Xu Peiling, Director of the Chiayi County Cultural and Tourism Bureau, and teachers and students from Xinpi Elementary School in Chiayi County and Tuku Elementary School in Changhua County jointly inaugurated the Family Art Month, symbolizing audiences of all ages entering the museum and embarking on a summer journey of cultural art and game exploration.

Shiao said in his speech that the "Summer Family Art Month" has been held for seven consecutive years and has been deeply loved every year since its launch, becoming a must-choose trip for many families during the summer vacation. This year, a series of activities combining knowledge and fun have been planned in conjunction with the current exhibitions.

Shiao said that he loved summer vacation the most when he was a child because it was a two-month long break. However, to play wisely during these two months, one should go to a museum to see interesting things and learn knowledge that cannot be learned in school. Moreover, the National Palace Museum Southern Branch has very strong air conditioning, and everyone is welcome to come and cool off.

Shiao pointed out that the National Palace Museum will also launch a museum sleepover program this summer. The Northern Branch's program is currently sold out instantly upon release, and the Southern Branch also plans to follow suit, so please look forward to it.

Shiao said that this year's Summer Family Art Month is themed "Artful Games" and combines with the "Exhibition of Calligraphy with Errors." It leads everyone to start by exploring ancient people's calligraphy with errors, and simultaneously displays large interactive installations such as "Fantasy Realm of Strange Characters" and "Study of Character Play." Visitors have the opportunity to receive limited edition "Calligraphy with Errors 'Wangi Biao'" (a type of traditional Taiwanese game tile).

In addition to puzzle-solving activities and large installations, the Southern Branch also offers a variety of family art experience courses, including rubbings, sachets, cold brew tea, ink dance, calligraphy bookmarks, floral arrangements, and summer dessert making activities. On the evening of July 11, the Tianma Circus Creation Troupe will present the large outdoor children's play "Artful Special Agents." Through situational drama and interactive stunt performances, it creates a summer night suitable for the whole family to enjoy.

In addition, during the summer vacation, the Northern Branch will launch the 2026 NPM Children's Fun Festival "Mythical Beast Investigation Bureau" series of activities. Participants who join any activity in the Northern Branch's NPM Children's Fun Festival can collect one stamp. Those who collect three stamps have a chance to win a limited edition "Lu Duan" (a mythical beast) collectible figure box.
