Electronic Blue Chips Lead Gains, Taiwan Stocks Surge Over 1500 Points Intra-day, Breaking 46500

(CNA, Reporter: Chang Chien-chung, Taipei, June 30) With the rebound of US stocks, Taiwan stocks today, driven by the strength of electronic blue chips such as TSMC, saw the weighted index rise over 1500 points intra-day, surpassing the 5-day and monthly moving averages, and breaking 46500 points.

As of 10:40 AM, the Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Stock Index was 46512.71 points, up 1512.81 points, with a transaction value of NT$663.2 billion.

TSMC's American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) surged 5.26%. TSMC's stock price also rose today, up NT$80 to NT$2450 intra-day, and once climbed to NT$2475 in early trading, up NT$105.

Other electronic blue chips such as MediaTek, Delta Electronics, Hon Hai, ASE Technology Holding, and Yageo also showed strong performance. Among them, Yageo hit the daily limit intra-day, reaching NT$1140, boosting the electronic sector index by over 4%, a major driving force for the market's strong rebound.

On June 29, PCB equipment manufacturer K.S. Precision Technology Co., Ltd. (科嶠工業) announced its board of directors' resolution to grant exclusive global technology licensing to Brooks Automation for the development and application of semiconductor wafer FOUP cleaning equipment. According to the agreement, the total one-time licensing fee is US$16 million (approximately NT$510 million). K.S. Precision Technology's stock price surged to the daily limit today, reaching NT$449.5.

Traditional industry stocks saw mixed performance. The plastics sector index and the glass sector index rose over 5%, and the cable sector index also rose over 2%, showing relatively strong performance.
