(CNA News, Reporter Chang Hsiung-feng, Taipei, June 30) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has warned that 11 counties and cities, including greater Taipei, are at risk of high temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius today. Weather expert Wu Der-rong stated that the Pacific high-pressure system is strengthening, and from July, temperatures nationwide could exceed 37 degrees Celsius. Additionally, tropical disturbances are brewing in the waters east of the Philippines and Guam.

The CWA issued a high-temperature advisory today, stating that weather across the island will be hot. Around noon, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and Yilan County will be under a yellow alert, with temperatures expected to exceed 36 degrees Celsius.

Wu Der-rong, an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, stated in his column "Heavenly Secrets Revealed Classroom" on the Foundation for Promotion of Weather Science and Technology that the latest European model simulation shows the front moving north today, with clear skies and scattered clouds across the island, and hot daytime temperatures. Convective development is still expected in the afternoon.

Wu Der-rong indicated that the latest model simulation shows the Pacific high-pressure system gradually strengthening tomorrow, with clear skies and scattered clouds across the island. Convection is expected to develop in mountainous areas in the afternoon, occasionally affecting some nearby low-lying areas. From July 2 to 8, the Pacific high-pressure system will influence the weather, with clear skies and scattered clouds across the island, and localized brief showers in mountainous areas in the afternoon.

Wu Der-rong reminded the public that daytime temperatures will be hot starting tomorrow, with nationwide highs potentially exceeding 37 degrees Celsius. Sun protection and heatstroke prevention are advised.

Wu Der-rong stated that the latest simulations from various international models show signs of tropical disturbances developing east of Guam and in the waters from east of the Philippines to the South China Sea. The first disturbance to develop will be named "Bavi," the ninth typhoon of the season.

Wu Der-rong pointed out that the disturbance east of Guam has the potential to strengthen into a typical strong typhoon during an El Niño year due to its proximity to warm ocean waters. International models will continue to be adjusted, and further observation is needed. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150630
